BIO

Portland musicians Daniel Gruska, Ben Dahmes, Joel Seaking, and Tripp Watson, formerly of Roselit Bone and Haunted Spurs, unite to create a distinct dark, gothic-inspired sound. Drawing inspiration from post-punk icons like Pink Turns Blue, The Chameleons, and The Cure, their music explores themes of historical mayhem, religious horror, and personal relationships with death and disease.

Described as sounding "halfway between Bauhaus and The Damned," Strzyga will also wander sonically into doom metal and shoegaze with overdriven guitar riffs and mournful vocals.

Steeped in the paranoia and isolation of the early pandemic lockdown, frontman Daniel Gruska wrote the majority of the band's debut EP in his garage. Themes draw from maligned women of history, musings on Satan, and Gruska's own experience with disease and trauma. The word strzyga (stree-gah) refers to a Polish folk demon, a nod to Gruska's heritage, and a cautionary tale of despair.

Adding drummer Ben Dahmes (Roselit Bone), bassist Joel Seaking (Voices of the Sea), and multi-talent Tripp Watson (Haunted Spurs) on synth, guitar, and production, Strzyga developed a unique sound, rooted in post-punk and goth, and heavily informed by Watson’s pop and punk accolades.

Strzyga began working on their first LP in 2021, but were delayed by an accident which nearly killed Gruska, and completed work on the recordings for release in 2023 following a long period of recovery, and are thrilled to finally perform live.
